Hey thanks for the shout out. Very interesting article, I guess like any medium blogging has become so big a hierarchy was always going to start forming. While there is a lot of mediocrity out there, it is always great finding alternative blogs that move behind daily outfit posts and ‘clothes from net-a-porter that i want’. Style Sample sounds fantastic, I’ll have to check it out once uni finishes in a few weeks and I have more time to blog and read. Thanks again!

Ally, I totally agree that it’s great to discover blogs with a bit more substance. Of course there’s a place for both – like there is for McNews tabloids and serious broadsheets, but the latter and its blogosphere contemporaries aren’t as sexy and have so far been missed in the hype. I feel this will evolve slowly but surely. Do have a look at Style Sample and pitch a contribution… we non-Rumis have a repsonsibility to lead by example and do our own proactive promotion! x

Hah, LOVE the sarcasm 🙂 I’m not alone in questioning the authority of a 13 year old with a bowl haircut and coke bottle glasses (“encyclopaedic knowledge of current collections notwithstanding” LOL!) I’ve read Style Sample already and saw your blog in it. Love the tone 🙂

Trashtastika, you are sooooo not alone. Unfortunately, it seems, many grown-up, probably-professional women aren’t so objective. I hereby declare them ‘couture cougars’. Thanks for the compliments – lowest form of wit my left Louboutin. Love your Japanese post! x

Great article! And thanks so much for posting my blog! Eek! IFB is such a great resource for a beginning blogger like myself. Now, if only I was only 13 years old…

Thanks Steff, it’s really nice to get feedback. And my pleasure re shoutout – I really love your blog and, as I responded above, reckon it’s up to we ‘intellectual bloggers’ (okay, creative licence there) to get out stuff out there. I’ll post intermittently about resources we can all use. (By the way, 30 is the new 13) x

Let’s face it, Rumi’s thin, but not terribly pretty. Tavi still has to wait 8 years before sampling her first glass of bubbly. And Lady Melbourne takes cute photos, but lets face it, many of us write better than she. It’s frustrating, maddening, demotivating and perplexing…. the elusive receipe that catapaults one from cyber shade (as you put it) to stardom. Am still working on it. xx

love your writing! your sarcasm cracks me up. oh i wish i could write as well as you.

i think you’ve hit it right on the spot with regards to the phenomenon on fashion bloggers. it really is about how they brand themselves. i’ve always found it to be amazing what media can do for human kind. i tried studying it in uni but somehow i just couldn’t quite grasp all those theories! ah wells, i’ll stick to lighter analysis of the media then 🙂

Awww, thanks Szela, glad you’re enjoying (it’s a great outlet)! And I loooove the way you write (see the vermouth analysis in the shoe post).
It really does come down to branding and the promotional mix and, because brands are unique entities, it can’t be replicated. I could get right into consumer behaviour here but will, like you, stick to a light analysis. Keep blogging and promoting x
